Month: July 2013
Now Gerald is out into the big wide world, it is time to look back over Jaguar and begin to tighten the story.
After my experience with writing Gerald, I have decided Jaguar should be aimed at a younger age group, and have some great ideas of how to weave the story for those readers.
The actual story itself will still follow the first draft but there will be a few additional characters and the feel of the novel itself should be lighter in tone.
I’m pretty excited about this project and can’t wait to get started. 🙂
When I want to take a break from the keyboard and reading, I like to play Skyrim – a fantasy game.
The style of the theme music to the game really hits the spot for one particular scene in Gerald.
Obviously I can’t divulge the scene but it is pretty cool 🙂
Enjoy the music, and play it LOUD!
I have managed to complete the second draft of Gerald, thanks to my awesome critique partner, who has given her time so unselfishly to help me.
We have made some very nice tweaks to the ending and I hope you will all enjoy the book when it is published.
The competition is just over a week away, and I am confident I can make the deadline, so fingers crossed please.
I have also updated the first chapter on here with the latest draft, please have a read and let me know what you think.
Coming soon, is a little treat, courtesy of my critiques partner’s 11 year old daughter. Watch this space 🙂
Just a quick post, to ask for a few beta readers to give feedback on the novel whilst I work through my revisions.
I’m not looking for in depth critiques as I have an amazing critique partner, but would like feedback on the book from a reader’s perspective. If you feel you have the time over the next couple of weeks to read Gerald and let me know your thoughts, please drop me a line.
I have formatted the manuscript into pdf which will allow you to read it with adobe’s free reader and also print it out. I am looking for readers of 12 years of age and upwards. It is an upper middle grade, humorous fantasy which should span a wide range of ages.
Thank you 🙂
Now for a day of relaxing in Skyrim before the hard work of editing begins.
Gerald is done!
Final page just typed and printed. This first draft weighs in at 82,878 words and 313 pages.
It has been a great ride, and now it is down to the real work of editing this draft to try and get it in a condition worthy of the competition deadline at the end of this month.
Be sure to read the first chapter on this website and if Gerald grabs your fancy then give me a shout as I am on the lookout for a few readers to help me whip it into shape 🙂
Time for a beer I think!
Gerald is fast approaching the finish line and I’m hoping this week will see the first draft put to bed.
Things are definitely heating up, and the last two chapters I have written are by far the longest in the novel. As we close in on the final confrontation both protagonist and antagonist are racing to a single location which will have a big impact on the outcome.
Who will get there first? Gerald, our hapless, accident prone wizard, or Vabalaz, the arch mage?
Read the book to see 😉
