Category: Gerald Updates
One of the great benefits of being part of WriteOnCon this year, apart from the wonderful writers and agents who take the time to critique, is the generosity of one of the community members – OceanWaves – an artist who brought many of the entrant’s main characters to life.
Below is L.L Tisdel’s impression of Gerald.

When I want to take a break from the keyboard and reading, I like to play Skyrim – a fantasy game.
The style of the theme music to the game really hits the spot for one particular scene in Gerald.
Obviously I can’t divulge the scene but it is pretty cool 🙂
Enjoy the music, and play it LOUD!
I have managed to complete the second draft of Gerald, thanks to my awesome critique partner, who has given her time so unselfishly to help me.
We have made some very nice tweaks to the ending and I hope you will all enjoy the book when it is published.
The competition is just over a week away, and I am confident I can make the deadline, so fingers crossed please.
I have also updated the first chapter on here with the latest draft, please have a read and let me know what you think.
Coming soon, is a little treat, courtesy of my critiques partner’s 11 year old daughter. Watch this space 🙂
Gerald is done!
Final page just typed and printed. This first draft weighs in at 82,878 words and 313 pages.
It has been a great ride, and now it is down to the real work of editing this draft to try and get it in a condition worthy of the competition deadline at the end of this month.
Be sure to read the first chapter on this website and if Gerald grabs your fancy then give me a shout as I am on the lookout for a few readers to help me whip it into shape 🙂
Time for a beer I think!
Gerald is fast approaching the finish line and I’m hoping this week will see the first draft put to bed.
Things are definitely heating up, and the last two chapters I have written are by far the longest in the novel. As we close in on the final confrontation both protagonist and antagonist are racing to a single location which will have a big impact on the outcome.
Who will get there first? Gerald, our hapless, accident prone wizard, or Vabalaz, the arch mage?
Read the book to see 😉

Great start to the weekend and still on course for completing first draft by the end of this month. Chapter sixteen has just been put to bed and chapter seventeen feels like it will be a fun one to write.
I will hopefully be able to clean up the manuscript enough to allow me to enter the competition at the end of July. I am increasing my daily word count goal and meeting it successfully, so we’ll have to see if I can keep up the pressure. Gerald is having fun and the bad guy not so much LOL.
See you on the next update. Any readers out there are welcome to hop onto the train and give feedback.

I have set myself a, probably, unrealistic deadline for Gerald but I am going to push as hard as I can to reach it. There is a competition I wish to enter and the last day for entry is 29 July 2013 which gives me around 7 weeks to finish the novel and get it into as polished a state as possible. Judging by the blurb about the competition Gerald is just what they are looking for and as the agency only holds a competition for humorous fiction once a year I am going to have to push myself to reach this year’s deadline.
I have put chapter 11 to bed and am half way through chapter 12 which brings me close to the halfway point in the novel. I will also be needing readers to jump aboard as I push for the finish line so if you are interested in becoming a reader for these final few weeks while I pull Gerald into shape please give me a shout.

Still going strong. Chapter nine has been put to bed and I’ve also nearly done with chapter ten. Vabalaz has just written himself into a fairly dodgy situation and now I need to figure out how to get him out of it. It probably won’t happen without the loss of a body part LOL.

I had a pretty good weekend writing… I know it’s not over yet as it is memorial weekend and bank holiday.
GERALD is coming along well and I am definitely ahead of the curve with this first draft and I hope it continues this way. I’m just starting chapter eight and chapter seven finished on another of Gerald’s little purchases. This little wizard is way too much like me when it comes to impulse buys…
Anyway have a great memorial day and bank holiday Monday and #KeepWriting
