Sky Jumpers by Peggy Wheeler Eddleman
Hope’s inventions always seem to fail and she feels like an embarrassment to her adoptive parents, especially when inventing is one of the most important skills for the village of White Rock, post WWIII.
She is a classic tomboy who loves nothing better than taking risks.
The fallout from the Green Bombs which decimated civilization as we know it provide the perfect outlet for her thrill seeking nature. The Bomb’s Breath, a single breath from which can kill, is a deadly residue from these bombs but has a property which is irresistible to Hope. Its density makes for an awesome experience, if you can call jumping off a towering cliff without a parachute, awesome.
Sky Jumping is the thrilling pastime of leaping off a cliff and using the density of the Bomb’s Breath to slow your decent, but as you pass through you must hold your breath or die.
Hope’s fearless and sometimes reckless nature is tested to the full when a group of bandits raid her village to steal antibiotics, an immensely valuable commodity in post WWIII. With the threat of death hanging over White Rock she must put her fears behind her and use her natural leadership skills to save her family and friends. The village motto ‘Work With Your Strengths’ becomes more than just a slogan for Hope!
Sky Jumpers is a great read which kids of all ages, including myself, will love.
